Transfer files from PC to PC

February 16, 2008

Easy, right?

Maybe you are now thinking that this post is all about using the external HDD to transfer your data to another PC. Yes that’s another way of transferring files from PC to PC, but for now, we will use another method that you can use if there’s no available external HDD around you.

Nope, not internal HDD to internal HDD. Although it is the fastest way to transfer files.

How about FDD? What’s FDD?:D

We will use “Cross cable” method.:D So wtf is crossover cable? If you are familiar in networking, you may hear this kind of network cable. It is usually used for connecting a PC to another PC directly using the “Network Interface Card”.

Here are the steps:

  • Make sure both workstations have “Network Interface Card” installed.
  • Set the IP address of both workstations within the same network, eg.,
    • A=192.168.0.0
    • B=192.168.0.1
  • Make sure both PC are not joined to any domain.(To prevent errors)
  • Inside “My Computer”, select which “drive” you want to share by going to drive’s “Properties” and setting the level of access to users.
  • Make sure that the TCP/IP is installed.

Now everything is set, we’ll proceed to transferring.

  • Click the “Windows” from the PC that you will be transferring the files, and from “Run”, enter the IP address of the workstation that will be copying from.
